Peter Dreier Visits the Forum, Sunday Oct. 21

Published on Tuesday, October 16, 2012 | 10:12 pm

Peter Dreier, professor of politics at Occidental College, will discuss his new book, The 100 Greatest Americans of the 20th Century: A Social Justice Hall of Fame, at All Saints Church’s Rector’s Forum on Sunday, October 21, at 10:15 a.m. Each generation of Americans faces a different set of economic, political, and social conditions. There are no easy formulas for challenging injustice and promoting democracy. But unless we know this history, we will have little understanding of how far we have come, how we got here, and how progress was made by the moral convictions and courage of the greatest Americans.

Dreier will talk about the common traits and values represented among the leaders featured in his book and what those character traits say about where we are at this moment in our nation’s history, including what’s at stake vis a vis those valued traits in this year’s elections.

Peter Dreier has written widely on American politics and public policy, specializing in urban politics and policy, housing policy, community development, and community organizing, and is a frequent speaker on these topics.
