A 19-year-old El Monte resident was fatally shot in Pasadena Wednesday night, according to Pasadena Police Lieutenant Monica Cuellar.
The shooting occurred on March 26th at approximately 6:16 p.m. in the 700 block of Rio Grande Street, between El Molino Ave and Lake Avenue, north of Washington Boulevard.
Officers responded to reports of a single-car collision and found a Hispanic man inside a vehicle that had crashed along the north curb line. The victim had sustained a gunshot wound to the upper body and was unresponsive, said Cuellar.
Officers attempted lifesaving measures, and when Pasadena Fire Department ambulance arrived, they also tried to revive the victim, Cuellar said. The victim didn’t survive and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Detectives from the Pasadena Police Department’s Robbery Homicide Unit and the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner responded to the crime scene to commence a follow-up investigation.
The victim’s identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin. Cuellar said that authorities are urging the public to come forward with any information related to the incident. “We’re asking the public, if they have any information, to call us or report to Crime Stoppers,” Lt. Cuellar added.
According to Cuellar, the street has been reopened to traffic on Thursday morning.
