A 37-year-old woman reported being sexually assaulted early Monday morning while sleeping under a pedestrian bridge in the 2900 block of East Walnut Street, according to Pasadena Police Lieutenant Anthony Russo.
Russo said officers responded at approximately 9:43 a.m. Sunday after the victim reported the attack. The woman told police she awoke around 4:00 a.m. to find an unknown man on top of her. She said the suspect assaulted her until she managed to break free and flee to a nearby tent, where she hid until the man left the area.
The suspect is described as a Hispanic man, between 30 and 35 years old, about 5 feet 10 inches tall, with a dark complexion, black hair, brown eyes, and a gold-plated front tooth. He was last seen wearing a dark-colored shirt and jeans, Russo said.
No weapons were involved, and no injuries beyond the assault were reported, according to Russo. The victim was transported for a sexual assault response team exam, and the investigation remains ongoing.
Russo confirmed the victim is believed to be unhoused and was sleeping outdoors at the time of the incident. Police have not identified any surveillance footage in the area that may have captured the suspect.
