Pasadena Police are investigating a string of copper wire thefts reported in the city’s North East neighborhood, including two incidents discovered on Sept. 16 that may be linked to earlier cases in the same area, according to Pasadena Police Lieutenant Monica Cuellar.
The most recent incident was reported at approximately 8:55 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 16, when a city Public Works employee discovered two electrical pool boxes with copper wire cut but not removed near Bella Vista Avenue and Cooley Place. Cuellar said the suspects may have been interrupted before completing the theft.
Surveillance cameras are present in the area, but footage had not yet been reviewed, Cuellar said.
Earlier that morning, at approximately 7:19 a.m., another Public Works employee found multiple open electrical boxes near Washington Boulevard and Woodlyn Road, where copper wire had been removed.
Cuellar confirmed that the theft was discovered during routine inspections prompted by recent incidents in the vicinity.
The quantity of wire stolen and the estimated loss have not yet been determined, and no street lighting outages were reported.
Cuellar also confirmed a separate copper wire theft reported on Monday, Sept. 15 near Washington Boulevard and Woodlyn Road.
Officers responded at approximately 4:16 p.m. after a Public Works employee reported signs of tampering and missing copper wire. That theft is believed to have occurred over the weekend and involved an estimated $1,000 in losses. Only one electrical box was affected, and no disruption to public infrastructure was noted.
According to Cuellar, the Sept. 15 incident may be related to a previous theft near Woodlyn Road and Del Rey Avenue, where more than 1,000 feet of copper wire valued at over $5,000 was stolen.
Cuellar said no witnesses have come forward in any of the cases, and while surveillance cameras are present in some locations, it remains unclear whether any footage captured the suspects.
Pasadena Police are urging residents to report any suspicious activity or information that may assist in the investigation. Cuellar emphasized the importance of community vigilance in preventing further thefts.
