Police Release New Details in 2021 Homicide of 13-Year-Old Iran Moreno, Seek Public’s Help

Authorities on Monday released a partial license plate number, suspect description, and new surveillance images in the unsolved 2021 killing of 13-year-old Iran Moreno, who was fatally shot by a stray bullet while playing video games inside his Pasadena home.

According to the Pasadena Police Department, newly enhanced surveillance footage has revealed a partial plate number, “QJ117,” from a gray Ford Fusion seen parked in a lot across from Moreno’s residence on the 900 block of North Raymond Avenue on the night of November 20, 2021. Investigators said the vehicle’s front passenger exited and fired two gunshots eastward—one of which struck Moreno through his bedroom window.

In addition to the partial plate, detectives also released a more detailed description of the suspect based on the footage. The shooter is described as a Black male, approximately 33 to 37 years old, 6 feet to 6 feet 1 inch tall, and weighing between 185 and 195 pounds. He was seen wearing a red and black North Face hooded sweatshirt.

The killing of Iran Moreno sparked outrage and grief across Pasadena, as residents and officials demanded answers and action on gun violence.
