Presidents Day: What’s Open and Closed in Pasadena on February 16

City Hall, banks and many government offices will close Monday, but trash pickup will run on schedule, and Pasadena parking meters will be free

Government offices, Pasadena Unified schools, the U.S. mail, banks and many public-facing city services will be closed Monday, Feb. 16, for the Presidents Day, while police and fire emergency response will continue and trash, recycling and yard-waste pickup will proceed on a normal schedule.

The federal holiday, observed on the third Monday in February, is expected to bring broad closures across federal, state, county and city government offices and financial markets, with normal operations resuming Tuesday, Feb. 17.

Government and municipal services

Pasadena City Hall will be closed Monday, and the City Council will not meet (its next meeting is scheduled for Monday, Feb. 23). The City Service Center will be closed and will reopen at 8 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 17.

Pasadena Water and Power’s customer service call center will be closed Monday, but customers can access accounts and make payments through the automated phone system at (626) 744-4005 or online at PWPWeb.com, according to the city.

For emergencies, Pasadena Water and Power said residents should call (626) 744-4673 for power emergencies and (626) 744-4138 for water-related emergencies.

The city’s Municipal Services Payment Center and Parking Office will be closed Monday, the announcement said. The Housing Department will also be closed Monday and will resume normal operations Tuesday, Feb. 17.

The Permit Center will be closed Monday, though many services will remain available through Permit Center Online, where residents can obtain subtrade permits and submit plans for certain construction and improvement projects. In-person operations will resume Tuesday, Feb. 17.

For emergency services, Pasadena police and fire will continue patrol, jail, paramedic and other essential emergency services during the holiday, the city said. For life-threatening emergencies, call 9-1-1. For non-emergency assistance, contact the Pasadena Police Department at (626) 744-4241.

Outside Pasadena, non-essential federal offices typically close for Presidents Day, and California lists Presidents Day as a state holiday in 2026.

Los Angeles County offices are also expected to be closed Monday, based on the county’s posted holiday schedule for 2026.

Transportation and parking

In Pasadena, all parking meters will be free Monday and parking time limits will not be enforced, the city said. However, violations for overnight parking restrictions, red curb parking and blocking fire hydrants will still be issued. Parking meter enforcement resumes Tuesday, Feb. 17.

Pasadena Transit and Dial-A-Ride buses will operate on their regular schedules Monday, according to the city announcement.

For regional service, Los Angeles Metro has said its buses and trains will operate on a regular weekday schedule for Presidents Day.

Postal and package services

The U.S. Postal Service will observe Presidents Day on Monday. Post Office locations will be closed, and regular mail delivery and retail services will resume Tuesday, Feb. 17, according to USPS.

UPS said pickup and delivery services will be available on Presidents Day, and UPS Store locations are expected to be open, though hours can vary by location.

FedEx said it will operate with modified service on Presidents Day, while FedEx Office locations are generally open; the company advises customers to check local office details.

Financial services

Most banks typically close their branches for Presidents Day in line with the Federal Reserve holiday schedule, though ATMs and online and mobile banking generally remain available.

U.S. stock markets will be closed Monday. The New York Stock Exchange lists Monday, Feb. 16, as a 2026 market holiday, with trading resuming Tuesday, Feb. 17. Nasdaq’s 2026 holiday schedule also lists Feb. 16 as closed.

Schools and libraries

Pasadena Unified School District will be closed Monday, according to the district’s online calendar..

All Pasadena Public Library branches will be closed Sunday and Monday, Feb. 15 and 16, and will reopen Tuesday, Feb. 17, according to the city.

Pasadena City College said its campuses will be closed for the Presidents Day weekend, including Monday, Feb. 16, with normal operations resuming afterward.

Recreation and waste services

Trash, recycling and yard-waste collection will occur as scheduled Monday, with no delay in pickup for residents, according to the city.

All Pasadena city parks will be open for picnics and recreation, though no site reservations are being accepted for the holiday, the city said. Community and recreation centers will be closed to the public Monday.

The Pasadena Public Health Department will be closed Monday, Feb. 16. The city announcement said vaccine clinics are scheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 18, and Monday, Feb. 23.

Retail and business

Many grocery stores, pharmacies and major retailers typically remain open on Presidents Day, but hours can vary by chain and by location; customers are generally advised to confirm holiday hours through each store’s official locator or by calling ahead.

Restaurants in Pasadena and Old Pasadena are generally open on the holiday, though some may run reduced hours or limited staffing; diners are generally advised to check directly with individual businesses.

Regular city services and most government and financial operations are set to resume Tuesday, Feb. 17.
