Rain Predicted to Crash UCLA-USC Party in Rose Bowl Saturday

Published on Friday, November 22, 2024 | 6:39 am

National Weather Service forecasters predict there will likely be an unwanted player on the field Saturday night at the 7:30 p.m. kickoff of the Bruins – Trojans Rose Bowl game: rain.

There’s a 60% chance the wet stuff will fall — and temperatures will fall too, with Saturday’s high plunging to just 61 and the low to a chilly 49.

Friday is expected to deliver one final day of mild autumn weather to the Crown City, with sunny skies and light afternoon breezes. The mercury will climb to a comfortable 69 degrees under clear skies, with calm morning conditions giving way to gentle south-southwestern winds around 5 mph by afternoon.

The pleasant weather won’t last long, however.

Clouds will begin increasing late tonight as temperatures fall to 46 degrees. Rain chances enter the forecast late night Friday, with a 30% chance of light precipitation. By Saturday, those rain chances jump to 60%, with wet weather likely persisting through Saturday night.

A cooling trend will accompany the incoming system. After today’s high of 69, daytime temperatures will drop to 61 on Saturday and hover in the low 60s through much of next week. Overnight lows will remain in the mid to upper 40s, typical for late November in Pasadena.

The weekend rain event isn’t expected to be a major soaker. Precipitation amounts are forecast to remain under a tenth of an inch for each period, though the rain chances are highest (60%) from late Saturday morning through Saturday night. Sunday brings a slight 20% chance of morning showers before partial clearing.

Looking ahead to next week, rain chances return Monday through Wednesday, with probabilities ranging from 20% to 40%. Temperatures will remain cool, with highs in the low 60s. By Thanksgiving Day, forecasters expect mostly sunny skies to return with a seasonal high near 65 degrees.
