Rep. Judy Chu Honors Two Pasadena Women Sunday During 2023 Congressional Women of the Year Ceremony

On Saturday, Rep. Judy Chu (CA-28) honored two Pasadena women, Pixie Boyden and Julia Gouw, and Altadenan Yoland Treviño, along with seven other San Gabriel Valley women at the 13th Annual Congressional Women of the Year Awards Ceremony.

Pixie Boyden is a community activist and organizer who has served the Northwest Pasadena and District 1 community for over 12 years. She has been endorsed by the National Women’s Political Caucus and is an adjunct professor at Pasadena City College.

Julia Gouw is a former president, chief operating officer, and a member of the board of directors of East West Bancorp, Inc. and East West Bank. She has notable achievements in philanthropy, women’s health advocacy, and promoting AAPI representation. She was the founding chair of the Executive Advisory Board of the UCLA Women’s Health to promote women’s health both in research and medical treatments. Gouw is also a philanthropist and arts patron. She is a prominent proponent for advancing AAPI representation.

Yoland Treviño is the Board President and Executive Director of the Pasadena/Altadena Coalition of Transformative Leaders (PACTL). PACTL is a non-profit organization that works to empower women and families in the Pasadena/Altadena area.

Chu has said she believes “When women succeed, we all succeed.”

The ceremony was held at the Arcadia Community Center. Chu presented each honoree with a certificate of recognition and a pin. She also gave a short speech in which she praised the women for their contributions to their communities.

  • Diana O’Brien of Claremont/Upland
  • Caroline Anderson of La Cañada Flintridge
  • Dora Leung of Monterey Park
  • Helen Romero Shaw of San Gabriel
  • Melody Lomboy-Lowe of Sierra Madre
  • Yuki Cutcheon of South Pasadena

The Congressional Women of the Year Awards are given to women who have made significant contributions to their communities through service, leadership, or organizing and mobilizing their neighbors. The awards are in their 13th year, and nominations are submitted by residents of Chu’s 28th congressional district.
