Rose Bowl Aquatics Center Launches Water Safety Month, Celebrates 35 Years

The Rose Bowl Aquatics Center is marking its 35th anniversary with a series of events throughout May dedicated to water safety awareness and drowning prevention.

The center will kick off its 2025 Water Safety Month initiative on Wednesday, April 30 with a community coffee event bringing together local families, leaders and supporters to discuss the organization’s 35-year journey and preview upcoming activities.

“Our goal is to equip every member of our community with the knowledge and confidence to be safe in and around water,” said Melanie Sauer, executive director of Rose Bowl Aquatics Center. “This year, we’re celebrating 35 years of lifesaving impact and inviting everyone to join in.”

The celebration continues May 15 with Water Safety Day and a Tread-a-Thon fundraiser.

The event will begin with a morning press conference featuring Pasadena city officials, followed by a community fundraiser where participants can tread water for 35 seconds, 3 minutes 35 seconds, or 35 minutes, or any combination using the numbers 3 and 5 to honor the center’s 35th anniversary.

The center will also host a special water fitness treading activity at 12:35 p.m. that day.

Additionally, Rose Bowl Aquatics Center is running a “35 Days of Water Safety Tips Campaign” from April 30 to June 3, sharing daily social media posts featuring essential safety tips, community stories and educational facts.

All fundraising efforts will support the center’s commitment to providing accessible, high-quality water safety programming for the community.

The organization has spent 35 years teaching life-saving skills and will unite the community through education, interactive engagements, and celebrations, highlighting its legacy while championing water safety.
