Rose Bowl Aquatics Center to Move Programs Out of Pasadena Facility Next April for Olympic Diving Preparations

The Rose Bowl Aquatics Center will temporarily relocate its programs and operations away from its Pasadena facility in the Arroyo Seco beginning April 1, 2027, so the site can be prepared to stage Olympic diving competitions in July 2028.

The Rose Bowl Aquatics Center, or RBAC, announced the move in an undated letter to its community signed by Executive Director Melanie Sauer and John Mothershead, chair of the board of directors.

The Los Angeles Organizing Committee for the Olympic and Paralympic Games 2028, known as LA28, will prepare the facility for the diving events, according to the letter.

The center, located at 360 N. Arroyo Blvd. in Pasadena, said its programs will continue at nearby locations throughout the preparations and through the conclusion of the Games.

A return to the Pasadena facility is planned for fall 2028.

“This temporary relocation is not a pause in the RBAC’s mission or programs,” the letter said. “It is a transition and an investment in what comes next.”

The organization said improvements are anticipated at the facility during that period, including work on the diving tower, the pools and related mechanical systems.

The center said it has early commitments from several partners that will help it continue serving participants during the transition, including local schools, colleges, cities and other nonprofit pools. The letter did not identify where specific programs will be held.

Sauer and Mothershead said the organization will release more details in the coming months about program locations, timelines, the facility improvements and the transition to new locations.

“We know change can be challenging, and we are committed to making this process as smooth and transparent as possible,” the letter said.

The Rose Bowl Aquatics Center is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. The center has served the community for more than 36 years, providing water safety skills.

Sauer and Mothershead said the organization’s commitment through the transition is to provide aquatics programming, maintain its sense of community and continue serving members and participants of all ages and abilities.
