The Rose Bowl Institute will be hosting its 6th Annual Women’s Empowerment Symposium, a free virtual event from Oct. 1 to 3. The three-day program will feature two hours of daily content led by accomplished female leaders on the Institute’s virtual platform and on the Rose Bowl Institute website immediately following the event.
The symposium, designed to showcase female leadership, confidence, and character, targets high school and college students. It emphasizes the Rose Bowl Institute’s core values of Sportsmanship, Leadership, and Citizenship, while encouraging young people to pursue higher education and career opportunities.
“This Symposium is a unique opportunity for young people to gain insights from leading figures across various fields, fostering a community of learning and inspiration,” Lauren Hall, Programs Director for the Rose Bowl Institute, said.
Previous speakers have included prominent figures such as actresses Sophia Bush and Alyssa Milano, former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright, Olympic gymnast Simone Biles, soccer stars Brandi Chastain and Julie Foudy, UCLA Gymnastics Coach Valorie Kondos-Field, Olympian Misty May-Trenor, and Team USA Bobsled Pilot and United States Marine Corps Captain Riley Tejcek.
Since its inception in August 2020, the Rose Bowl Institute has focused on educating at-risk youth and underserved communities. Its free, donor-funded programs aim to impart skills rooted in ethics, teamwork, sportsmanship, and equality.
The Women’s Empowerment Symposium has expanded its reach significantly since 2019, engaging more than 20,000 participants across seven countries and 33 states. It offers both virtual sessions and in-person experiences for attendees.
In 2021, the virtual format drew nearly 1,200 registrations from 33 states and 8 countries. Participants engaged with 31 diverse female speakers over six-plus hours during the three-day event.
The Institute also hosts an in-person Women’s Empowerment Luncheon at the Rose Bowl. This event has featured speakers like former UCLA Gymnastics Coach Valorie Kondos Field and star gymnast Katelyn Ohashi, winner of the ESPY for Best Play and Viral Play of the year in 2019, for her perfect 10 floor performance viewed over 250 million times.
While primarily targeting women, the symposium encourages male participation to foster mutual empowerment. The program aims to benefit future leaders of all genders through sports-based values and experiences.
The event’s key goals include instilling leadership, ethics, confidence, and character-based skills in young people. It provides insights on societal and cultural topics, health, and other relevant issues.
Admission is free for all attendees. Participants will also have the opportunity to submit applications for scholarship opportunities.
