The operators of Santa Anita Park in Arcadia have unveiled a comprehensive plan to consolidate racing operations in Southern California which they hope will revitalize the state’s thoroughbred racing industry.

The plan includes significant investments to enhance the safety and well-being of horses at Santa Anita Park in Arcadia.

The Stronach Group, which operates as 1/ST RACING, said its committing to a multi-million-dollar plan to facilitate the relocation of horses, trainers, and backstretch employees from Golden Gate Fields in Berkeley to Santa Anita Park. The initiative aims to support California breeding programs and improve the overall safety environment.

Chairwoman, CEO, and President of the Group Belinda Stronach said the plan seeks to bolster racing experiences and lead to a healthier, competitive, and sustainable future for Thoroughbred racing in the region.

As part of this plan, Stronach Group has committed over $1 million to support the relocation of stakeholders and caregivers from Golden Gate Fields to Santa Anita Park.

A new all-weather synthetic track will be constructed at Santa Anita Park, replacing the existing training track. The commitment also extends to funding a portion of 2024 healthcare premiums for Golden Gate Fields employees.

The company also plans to invest over $500,000 over two years in a state-of-the-art equine pool for hydrotherapy and a horse exerciser. Notably, $23.2 million will be dedicated to a backside barn improvement program. 1/ST RACING will also invest $2.5 million in building a turf chute at Santa Anita Park.
