Southern California Edison will begin electrical grid maintenance in South Pasadena on Oct. 14 as part of a long-term modernization effort aimed at improving reliability and reducing wildfire risk, according to the City of South Pasadena.
The work is scheduled to continue through Jan. 30 and will primarily affect the Southwest Monterey Hills neighborhood, where planned power outages are expected. Southern California Edison stated that residents will be notified in advance of any scheduled outages. The company emphasized that the upgrades are necessary to enhance public safety, particularly during wildfire season.
Crews and approved contractors will be active throughout the city, using heavy equipment and, in some cases, helicopters to install upgraded infrastructure. Temporary road closures may occur during the maintenance period.
Local residents have expressed mixed feelings about repeated power outages in recent months. One local resident, identified only as Scott, voiced concerns about the management of planned outages, citing frustration over outages extending beyond their scheduled durations and difficulties experienced during recent heat waves.
Scott urged Southern California Edison to incorporate community feedback into its scheduling and to improve communication about outage timelines.
