High pressure system brings warming trend to inland valleys while coast stays cool

Temperatures in Pasadena and surrounding inland valleys will climb from the mid-80s to near 90 degrees by Sunday as a high pressure ridge builds over Southern California, the National Weather Service said Tuesday.

The warming trend begins Wednesday and peaks over the weekend, forecasters said. Coastal areas will remain much cooler, with highs in the 60s and 70s.

“An upper level ridge of high pressure is currently building over the area,” weather service forecasters said in their Tuesday morning forecast discussion.

Tuesday’s high will reach 86 degrees in Pasadena, with patchy morning fog clearing by 11 a.m. and gradual clearing through the afternoon.

The pattern will continue Wednesday with a slight dip to 85 degrees, followed by brief cooling Thursday and Friday to 84 and 83 degrees respectively.

The most significant warming arrives Saturday, when temperatures rise to 86 degrees under partly sunny skies. Sunday will be the warmest day with full sunshine and a high of 89 degrees.

Morning fog patches will persist through Friday before 11 a.m., then clear as the marine layer retreats. The marine layer influence will diminish significantly over the weekend.

Winds will remain light and variable throughout the week, typically shifting to south-southwest at 5 to 10 mph in the afternoons.

No precipitation is expected during the forecast period. The strengthening high pressure system will maintain dry conditions across the San Gabriel Valley.

The warming trend continues into early next week, with Monday maintaining sunny skies and temperatures around 88 degrees.

No weather advisories are in effect for the Pasadena area, though gusty sundowner winds will affect southwestern Santa Barbara County with wind advisories issued for those regions.
