With a solid pitching effort from Yoshinobu Yakamoto and consistent hitting throughout the game, the Dodgers evened up the first two games of their three-game series with the Colorado Rockies, dropping them 4-1 Saturday at Dodger Stadium.
After a very quiet first inning, Brendon Rodgers doubled to left field in the second. Moments later, Brenton Doyle delivered one in deep right field to Jason Heyward, deep enough to score Rodgers, who casually trotted home.
But that was about all the action that Yoshinobu Yamamoto would allow, as he delivered a sterling performance that kept the Rockies essentially quiet for the rest of the match. The Rockies found themselves with runners in scoring position a few times, but in each instance, Yamamoto or Evan Phillips or Blake Treinen turned out the lights.
In the bottom of the second, Teoscar Hernandez singled up the middle. Gavin Lux got tossed out at first after shattering his bat, but Hernandez scampered home after two embarrassing Rockies throwing errors.
After a double from Jason Heyward, Andy Pages headed home, increasing the Dodger lead.
After getting on base again, Pages ran for home again after a double from Kike Henandez, giving the Dodgers a 3-1 lead.
Dodgers 3, Rockies 1.
Freeman tripled to left in the fifth inning and Will Smith brought him safely with a double to the same corner where Freeman had tripled.
Dodger relievers Evan Phillips and Blake Treinen finished off the last two innings, keeping the Rockies quiet. Treinen has not allowed a run yet this season while collecting 13 strikeouts in 9 2/3 innings.
The Dodgers and Rockies will meet for the third game of the series on Sunday afternoon at Dodger Stadium.
