Pasadena City College men’s track and field sprinter Quishawn Stanford raced to first place in the 400-meter hurdles at the Southern California Prelims on May 2 at Bakersfield College’s Memorial Stadium. Stanford and teammate Anthony Pequeno both qualified for two events for the SoCal Championships next Saturday, May 9 at Bakersfield.

Stanford’s 53.87 seconds mark was nearly two seconds faster than his previous best and it’s the 11th fastest time in the state this year. He was seventh in the 110 hurdles at 15.04, now 10th in the state.

Pequeno was able to just make it into the SoCal Championships field for both the 200 and 400 sprints. He took ninth in the 200 at 21.52, off the pace of his 21.23 (sixth in state) from earlier in the season. That time is ninth fastest in PCC history in the event. Last year, he took home a second place medal (21.30) at the SoCal Finals.

The sophomore also placed ninth in the 400 at 49.26. He has a 48.28 fastest time to his credit.

Noah Fry settled for 16th and out of the qualifiers in the triple jump (44 feet, 7.5 inches) after he was 46-4.75 at the South Coast Conference Championships. That season-best leap would have put him in the finals.

The Lancers are directed by head coach Innocent Egbunike.
