Street Closures and Traffic Impacts This Week as Pasadena Ramps Up Repairs

Drivers in Pasadena face a week of slowdowns and detours beginning Monday, with multiple city projects closing streets across the city simultaneously — from the Arroyo near the Rose Bowl to Fair Oaks Avenue south of downtown.

The most extensive work involves resurfacing around the Rose Bowl and Brookside Park, where seven street segments will close beginning Monday, July 20, and remain shut through Friday, July 31, according to a public notice posted by the City of Pasadena. 

An additional localized repair is also scheduled. 

The closures are part of the city’s Annual Street Resurfacing and ADA Improvements Project, according to a city project map accompanying the notice.

The affected streets are Linda Vista Avenue from the northern city limit to Mount Vernon Place; Washington Boulevard from West Drive to Rosemont Avenue; Parkview Avenue from Yocum Street to Washington Boulevard; Yocum Street from Linda Vista Avenue to Parkview Avenue; Rosemont Avenue from Arroyo Boulevard to Washington Boulevard; Seco Street from West Drive to Linda Vista Avenue; and Arroyo Boulevard from the edge of Lot I to Arroyo Drive. A localized repair on Seco Street from Lincoln Avenue to Prospect Boulevard is also included.

The Rose Bowl Stadium, Brookside Golf Course, the Rose Bowl Aquatics Center and Kidspace Museum will remain open during construction, according to the city notice.

Separately, construction at the intersection of Orlando Road and the southern terminus of South Allen Avenue nesr The Huntington will bring temporary lane closures and traffic delays from Monday, July 20, through Friday, July 24, from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., according to a City of Pasadena social media post. The city advised motorists to avoid the area.

Also, night work will close Fair Oaks Avenue between Bellefontaine Street and Congress Street. That stretch will be closed to traffic from Monday, July 20, through Friday, July 24, from 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m., according to a separate city notice.

In addition, Pasadena Water and Power has scheduled overnight work on Fillmore Street between Fair Oaks Avenue and Raymond Avenue during the same week, from 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. Monday, July 20, through Friday, July 24, for a water main installation, according to the city manager’s July 16 weekly newsletter. 

The intersection of Fair Oaks Avenue and Fillmore Street will be closed, with detours routed through Bellefontaine Street and Raymond Avenue. The utility is installing a new 8-inch water main to reinforce water service reliability in the area, according to the newsletter. The water main replacement project will continue with daytime work from July 27 through mid-September.

The resurfacing work near the Rose Bowl is the longest of the closures, extending 12 days through the end of July.
