Suspect Arrested After Assault, Vandalism Incident in Pasadena

A 51-year-old Pasadena man was arrested Wednesday morning after assaulting a relative and attempting to strike police officers with a chair, Pasadena Police Lieutenant Anthony Russo said.

Russo said that officers responded at about 6:52 a.m. to the 700 block of Merit Drive, where they heard glass breaking and yelling. On arrival, officers reportedly saw the suspect, identified as Dany Colo – Ramirez, breaking an exterior window of a residence with a chair while the victim tried to fend him off from inside with a piece of lumber.

According to Russo, the victim, a 54-year-old Pasadena man, suffered redness to the face and complained of pain after being punched multiple times. A 72-year-old woman and relative witnessed the incident.

When officers confronted Ramirez, he allegedly raised the chair in an aggressive manner as if to strike one of them. Russo said officers deployed a Taser, striking Ramirez twice. He fell to the ground, dropped the chair, and continued resisting as officers restrained him.

Investigators determined Ramirez and the victim are related and live on the same property, with Ramirez residing in a rear house. Prior to police arrival, Russo said the victim had managed to push Ramirez out of the home, lock the door, and call 911.

The victim was treated at the scene by Pasadena Fire Department personnel and released. Ramirez was transported to a local hospital due to his agitated state and suspected intoxication from drugs or alcohol, Russo said.

No officers were injured. Ramirez will be booked on charges of felony vandalism and assault, according to Russo.
