Suspected DUI Driver Stops for Gas Mid-Chase Before Arrest in Pasadena

A suspected DUI driver led California Highway Patrol officers on a high-speed pursuit from the West Valley to Pasadena on Sunday night, even stopping to fill up on gas before continuing to flee, according to ABC7.

The chase ended when the driver and two passengers abandoned the vehicle near the intersection of Del Monte Street and Forest Avenue in Pasadena and fled on foot, ABC7 and FOX LA reported. All three were taken into custody, according to ABC7.

The pursuit vehicle was a maroon Dodge Charger with blacked-out windows and no headlights, ABC7 reported. At points during the chase, speeds exceeded 130 mph, according to ABC7, which said its AIR7 helicopter periodically lost sight of the driver due to the excessive speed.

During the pursuit, the driver pulled off the freeway into a gas station and pumped several gallons of fuel before rejoining the chase, ABC7 reported.

FOX LA reported that among those detained near the chase’s end were a man and a woman, though this detail could not be independently verified against ABC7‘s account, which described only “two passengers” without specifying gender.

No names, ages, or booking information for the driver or passengers had been released as of Sunday night, according to available reporting. No charges had been announced.
