A 17-year-old Pasadena resident was arrested after fleeing officers on an electric scooter and later being found with a loaded firearm following a brief pursuit near Robinson Park, according to Pasadena Police Lieutenant Thomas Blanchard.
The incident began at approximately 11:26 p.m. Oct. 9 near Mountain Street and Marengo Avenue, where officers attempted to stop a juvenile riding an electric scooter for vehicle code violations, Blanchard said.
According to Blanchard, the rider failed to stop and the officers then recognized him as a robbery suspect in an unrelated investigation and as a person known to Pasadena Police theft detectives, Blanchard said.
Blanchard said the suspect continued riding the scooter while weaving in and out of traffic before entering the south parking lot of Robinson Park.
As officers pulled alongside the juvenile, the scooter hit the side of police car, causing the rider to fall off the scooter, according to Blanchard.
The juvenile was then taken into custody without further incident, Blanchard said.
During a pat-down search following the arrest, officers allegedly recovered a loaded firearm from the suspect’s front pocket, according to Blanchard. The weapon was reportedly identified as a P80-style 9mm handgun equipped with a magazine containing nine rounds, Blanchard said. Blanchard clarified that there was no round in the chamber.
The suspect was arrested on suspicion of firearm possession offenses.
