The Pasadena Fire Department Prepares to Go Pink

The Pasadena Fire Department will wear pink t-shirts during the month of October to raise awareness of breast cancer and cancer research, according to a statement released to the media.

To kick off Firefighters Go Pink, members of the Fire Department will walk a ceremonial lap around the Rose Bowl on October 2 and then sell pink shirts to the public. According to the media release, 100 percent of the money raised will be donated to the Huntington Hospital Breast Cancer Center, which provides supportive groups and treatment to patients from diagnosis to recovery.

“Pasadena firefighters responded to over 14,000 medical incidents last year and often provide services to members of the community with cancer,” read the press release. “Taking part in this effort gives the Department an opportunity to fight breast cancer as well as support a cause that has affected every member of our department, and many more in our city.”

The day will begin at 9 a.m., where people will have a chance to warm-up with the firefighters at Basecamp Fitness, a new gym opening up in Pasadena. Then, firefighters will meet in front of the Rose Bowl’s neon sign to walk a lap before going to the Health and Fitness Fair at Brookside Park, according to the media statement.
