A 47-year-old man was arrested Sunday night after allegedly assaulting a woman and violating a restraining order, according to Pasadena Police Lieutenant Monica Cuellar.

Officers responded around 9:48 p.m. June 14 to the 100 block of North Mar Vista Avenue, where they learned the suspect — identified as Basil Grant, a Pasadena resident — had allegedly assaulted a 43-year-old Pasadena woman and violated an active restraining order, Cuellar said. The case involved a court-order violation under section 166.4, she added.

As officers attempted to detain Grant, he reportedly resisted arrest by kicking officers and grabbing at them aggressively, Cuellar said. Officers subdued him using a wrap device, described by Cuellar as a full-body restraint designed to prevent a suspect from flailing their arms or legs. She emphasized that officers placed Grant in the device without the use of force and confirmed that no weapons were used during the incident.

Grant was taken to a local hospital for medical clearance before being booked into the Pasadena jail on multiple felony charges, including resisting arrest with force, violation of a restraining order, and spousal abuse, Cuellar said. He also had an outstanding warrant for a prior restraining order violation.

Three officers sustained minor injuries, including abrasions and complaints of pain, though none required medical treatment, according to Cuellar. The victim reported pain to her head, chest and lower back.
