Three teenage boys were arrested Monday evening after allegedly robbing a 16-year-old at gunpoint during a jewelry sale arranged through an online marketplace, according to Pasadena Police Lieutenant Monica Cuellar.
Officers responded at 5:46 p.m. to reports of an armed robbery near Garfield Avenue and Flower Street, Cuellar said. As police were en route, dispatchers received updates that the suspects were possibly armed with a handgun and running away, Cuellar said.
Members of the Department’s Street Crime Unit arrived first and detained all three suspects, Cuellar said.
A field show-up was conducted, and the victim positively identified the suspects, Cuellar said.
According to Cuellar, the victim had agreed to meet one of the suspects to sell jewelry he had advertised on an online market application. While meeting the first suspect, two additional suspects approached and both pointed handguns at the victim, Cuellar said.
The suspects then allegedly grabbed the victim, reached into his pocket, and took an undisclosed amount of cash and a gold-plated necklace before fleeing, she said.
A witness called police and provided a detailed description of the suspects and their direction of travel, which helped officers quickly locate and detain them, Cuellar said.
Neither the firearms nor the stolen property were recovered, Cuellar added.
The suspects were identified as 15-year-old, 16-year-old, and 14-year-old boys, all from Pasadena, according to Cuellar.
The 16-year-old victim was not injured in the incident, Cuellar said.
