Anchored by a $35,000 award to the San Gabriel Educational Foundation and a $20,000 award to the Monrovia Wildcat Band Boosters — with 16 other community initiatives receiving grants of up to $10,000 each — the grants continue the Foundation’s annual community-philanthropy cycle of supporting nonprofits serving people of all ages in education, sports and recreation, and visual and performing arts.
According to the Foundation, the grants were made possible through its fundraising efforts including the Golf Classic presented by J.P. Morgan Chase & Co., which raised more than $140,000. The Foundation’s annual Golf Classic, in its fourth year, is held at Brookside Golf Course adjacent to the Rose Bowl Stadium.
The Foundation said the $35,000 grant to the San Gabriel Educational Foundation, established in 1986, will support the San Gabriel Unified School District’s TK-12 Library Modernization and Literacy Equity Initiative. According to the Foundation’s press release, the initiative is intended to address aging collections and limited library access across SGUSD schools and to ensure students “have access to accurate, current, and representative information reflecting the world they are entering.” The San Gabriel Educational Foundation, a nonprofit public benefit corporation, works with district leaders, community members, educators, and parents to provide supplemental resources and innovative programming that promote academic achievement, wellness, and creativity across the district’s TK-12 campuses.

The $20,000 grant to the Monrovia Wildcat Band Boosters, which the Foundation said supports and sustains the Monrovia High School Musical Arts Program by providing equitable access to music and performing arts education, will support more than 100 Monrovia High School students plus invited seventh- and eighth-grade Clifton Middle School participants in band, color guard, orchestra, choir, and drumline, covering uniforms, instruments, equipment, transportation, and competition fees. Program activities include rehearsals, performances, and competitions at Monrovia High School and at venues throughout Southern California, according to the press release. The Monrovia Wildcat Band Boosters Club is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit based in Monrovia that organizes fundraising for the Monrovia High School band program.
The Pasadena Tournament of Roses Foundation, headquartered at 391 S. Orange Grove Blvd. in Pasadena, was created in 1983 to receive and manage contributions from the Pasadena Tournament of Roses Association, its members, donors, friends, sponsors, and the public. The Foundation makes grants in three categories — sports and recreation, visual and performing arts, and education — to nonprofits in an 11-city service area that includes Pasadena, Altadena, Arcadia, La Cañada Flintridge, Monrovia, San Gabriel, San Marino, Sierra Madre, South Pasadena, Temple City, and Alhambra. According to the Foundation, it has awarded nearly 300 grants since its inception to invest in people through sustainable programs.
The Foundation said the Golf Classic’s proceeds helped enable seven of this year’s 18 recipients to receive grant support from the Tournament of Roses Foundation for the first time.
