The Pasadena City College men’s and women’s track and field teams wanted to do their best at the PCC-hosted, 69th Pasadena Games held Friday and Saturday at Robinson Stadium. In their lone home meet of the season, sophomore distance runner Luis Dorantes led a bevy of Lancers athletes who earned high places at the event.

In the men’s events, Dorantes continued to stand out as he was again the only PCC athlete to win an event–racing to first in the 5,000 meters with a slower than average time of 15:25.41. Dorantes also joined Alfredo Folgar, Kevin Cano, and Oswel Caal to PCC second place finishes in both the 4×800 relay (8:17.64) and 4×1,600 relay (18:38.33).

Ron Spears ran a strong third place in the 100 dash with a time of 10.92 seconds. Spears took eighth (22.41) and teammate Robert Pachorek ninth (22.49) in the 400 meters. Caleb Wood was fifth overal in the discus, but first among community college participants with a 38.33 meters toss. Matt Aikens placed 12th in the triple jump, but fourth of community college competitors with a 12.99 meters leap.

In the women’s events, Lancers sophomore Tenia Sebastian placed second in the 400 hurdles with a time of 65.63 seconds. Jackae Bridges was third in the 200 meters at 25.79. Bridges took sixth in the long jump, but was tops among community college athletes with a leap of 17 feet, 5 inches.

The relay team of Diane Lombardi, Elizabeth Lyons, Arielle Barragan-Steimer, and Cassandra Lew placed second in the 4×1,600 relay (22:35.18) and third in the 4×800 relay (10:05.17). Yvette Bastidas placed eighth in the shot put with a throw of 10.04 meters.

Larry Wade, PCC track and field head coach, was the meet director and the event featured the announcing from the press box by former PCC coach turned track and field historian Larry Knuth. PCC distance coach Armand Crespo also helped run the meet.

The complete results for the event, which also featured some top amateur track and field sprinters along with club and high school competition, can be found at the following link:
