Transformer Failure Cuts Power to 167 Pasadena Accounts on Christmas Day

Published on Friday, December 26, 2025 | 8:27 am

A fallen transformer left more than 160 Pasadena customers without electricity for several hours Thursday afternoon, according to Pasadena Police Lieutenant Thomas Blanchard.

Blanchard said officers responded at about 4:02 p.m. to San Remo Road and Laguna Road, where they found a wooden utility pole split and a transformer hanging precariously from power lines.

Pasadena Fire Department and Pasadena Water and Power crews also responded to secure the area and begin repairs.

The outage affected approximately 167 accounts, Blanchard said. Full service was restored by about 11:00 p.m. Thursday night.

Blanchard explained that the pole failed due to a combination of age, woodpecker damage, saturation from recent rain and strong winds.

No injuries were reported, Blanchard confirmed. He added that no road closures were required and no other weather-related incidents were noted in the city at the time.
