Pasadena Fire Department crews rescued two hikers with ankle injuries from Eaton Canyon on Saturday, July 20, according to Pasadena Fire Department spokesperson Lisa Derderian.
The incident, dubbed the Pinecrest Incident, began at 10:17 a.m. when firefighters were dispatched to a mountain rescue north of the Eaton Canyon Nature Center, Derderian said.
A female hiker had sustained a minor ankle injury on the trail north of a bridge near the Pinecrest Trailhead, according to initial reports received by emergency responders.
Pasadena firefighters found the initial patient approximately 200 yards from the first waterfall in Eaton Canyon.
As crews were evaluating the initial patient, a second hiker called 911 reporting an ankle injury about 30 yards from the bridge, Derderian said.
Altadena Mountain Rescue Team members arrived on scene with a utility terrain vehicle and additional personnel to assist with the rescue operation.
Sierra Madre Search and Rescue also responded to provide support in removing both injured hikers from the canyon, according to Derderian.
The two patients were successfully extracted and transported to area hospitals for further medical evaluation, fire officials reported.
Eaton Canyon is a popular hiking area known for its waterfalls and occasionally challenging terrain, attracting many visitors on weekends.
