Tuesday Cool-Down Drops Day’s High to “Just” 91°

…but heat will build again for Labor Day Weekend

Pasadena residents will see cooler temperatures Tuesday before a warming trend resumes midweek and continues for a “high and dry” Labor Day weekend, according to the National Weather Service.

Tuesday’s high is expected to reach 91 degrees, down about 6 degrees from Monday. Forecasters attribute the cooling to a weakened marine layer and shifting upper-level patterns.

Skies will remain sunny with light south-southwest winds at 5 to 10 mph in the afternoon. Tonight will be clear with a low near 62 degrees and calm winds.

Temperatures will rise gradually beginning Thursday, which will take the credit for the week’s coolest day (near 90 degrees). Overnight lows will stay in the low to mid-60s.

By Friday, highs will climb back to 91 degrees, followed by 93 degrees Saturday and 95 degrees Sunday. Labor Day is forecast to reach 94 degrees. The warming trend reflects a stable weather pattern over Southern California.

There is no rain in the forecast (though forecasters note a slight chance of thunderstorms Friday over the Los Angeles County mountains due to moisture from former tropical storm Juliette).

Winds will remain light and variable throughout the week, shifting from calm mornings to gentle southwest breezes in the afternoon. No wind advisories are in effect.

Weekend conditions will be sunny and warm. Officials advise residents to stay hydrated and limit sun exposure during peak heat hours.

Tuesday’s cooling is brief respite (of a sort) that will reduce energy demand and offer relief for outdoor workers. However, rising temperatures later this week could increase heat-related risks.

Forecasters caution that dry lightning and downburst winds may occur near the San Gabriel Mountains.

No active advisories are in place for Pasadena. The extended forecast shows continued warm and dry conditions next week, with highs in the low to mid-90s and lows in the mid-60s.

Pasadena residents should prepare for a warm and dry stretch through Labor Day, with minimal precipitation and stable weather conditions.
