Two Men Seriously Injured After Jeep Plunges Off 210 Freeway Into Storm Drain

[Updated]  Two people were critically injured earky Sunday after a Jeep they were in went over a K-rail on the westbound 210 Freeway in Pasadena and fell about 50 feet into a gap between the freeway and the Metro A Line right-of-way, authorities said.

California Highway Patrol officers located the vehicle and reported two victims were unconscious and unresponsive, with one trapped under the Jeep, authorities said.

Both patients were extricated by Pasadena Fire Depatment crews and taken by rescue ambulances to a local hospital in critical condition.

The westbound 210 Freeway was closed intermittently for about two hours. Metro A Line service was not stopped, but trains were asked to proceed slowly through the area.

Their identities have not been released.

The Jeep was the only vehicle involved, and the cause of the crash has not been determined.

CHP Altadena issued a SigAlert that closed the westbound I-210 HOV lane and the No. 1 and No. 2 lanes for about two hours at about 12:38 a.m. Sunday. The alert listed the location as east of Sierra Madre Villa Avenue.

A Pasadena police airship, the California Highway Patrol, and the Sierra Madre Fire Department assisted.
