Two high-profile murder cases will move forward in Los Angeles County Superior Court in Pasadena next week. The following is some background information on both cases.
Wednesday, Sept. 29, 8:30 a.m.
Pre-trial Hearing: Daniel Cervantes
Daniel Cervantes, 32, is charged with murder in connection with the shooting death of a 22-year-old man whose body was found near Angeles Crest Highway in the Pasadena area on Nov. 6, 2019. He was arrested a day after the crime and has pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The victim was Julio Robles-Castaneda, 22. A 16-year-old boy was also arrested, but the status of any case against him was not immediately known.
Cervantes remains in custody, with bail set at $3 million.
The hearing will be held in Department F of the Pasadena Courthouse.
Thursday, Sept. 30, 8:30 a.m.
Trial: Jose Antonio Santiago
Jose Antonio Santiago, 69, of Pasadena, is charged with murder in connection fatally stabbing one man and attempted murder for allegedly injuring another man in Pasadena in the early morning hours of Sept. 12, 2018.
The complaint alleges that the accused personally used a knife and inflicted great bodily injury on the victim, Jerry Chan, 42, who was stabbed to death in the 2600 block of Colorado Boulevard at about 1:30 a.m.
Santiago is also accused of the attempted murder of Dan Trevino, 32. He pleaded not guilty to the charges on Oct. 18, 2018, and is currently in custody, with bail set at $3.02 million.
The trial will be held in Department B of the Pasadena Courthouse.
