Two people who are charged with murdering their victims in Pasadena are scheduled to appear in the Pasadena Courthouse on Monday for separate pretrial hearings, according to court records.
Enrique Real, of Baldwin Park, is charged with fatally stabbing Christopher Flores, 30, of Altadena, outside a CVS Pharmacy at Orange Grove Boulevard and Fair Oaks Avenue on Sept. 11, 2020. Real was 19 years old at the time of the incident.
Prosecutors say Real and Flores knew each other, but the motive for the stabbing requires further investigation. Lt. Jesse Carrillo of the Pasadena Police Department stated in a written statement, “The investigation revealed the victim and suspect knew each other, however, the motive for the stabbing of victim Flores requires further follow up by detectives.”
Flores was taken to a hospital after police and paramedics responded to “multiple calls” reporting the attack, according to police reports. Witnesses provided descriptions of the suspect, and Real was found trying to leave the area and taken into custody shortly after the attack, according to Lt. Carolyn Gordon of the Pasadena Police Department.
Prosecutors filed a count of murder against Real on Sept. 16, 2020. Real is being held on $2 million bail. His pretrial hearing is set for 8:30 a.m.
In a separate case, Carolina Hernandez, 41, is charged with murdering Corina Monroy, 60, of Pasadena, on Dec. 22, 2022. Hernandez’s preliminary hearing date is scheduled to be set at 8:30 a.m. in Department H.
Officers responded to a report of a “fight” in the 400 block of North Los Robles Avenue and found Monroy unresponsive in the parking lot, suffering from head trauma. She was pronounced dead at the scene. A determination on Monroy’s cause of death was deferred pending additional investigation, according to records from the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office.
Hernandez was arrested later that evening and charged with the killing on Dec. 29, 2022. She is being held on $2 million bail.
The Pasadena Courthouse is at 300 West Walnut Street in Pasadena’s downtown Civic Center.
