Longtime Los Angeles sports broadcaster Jim Hill will be honored by UCLA Athletics at the Rose Bowl before the Bruins’ football game against USC next month, recognizing his more than five decades in broadcasting.

Hill, who celebrated 50 years on the air in Los Angeles this year, will be recognized on the field Nov. 28 before the rivalry game, according to UCLA.

“Jim Hill has become synonymous with sports in Los Angeles,” UCLA CEO and Director of Athletics Tim Harris said. “For generations of fans, Jim has been a trusted voice and presence for so many of the moments that have made sports in this city special.

“UCLA has been fortunate to have Jim tell the stories of our student- athletes, coaches and teams throughout his remarkable career. Jim is an L.A. sports legend, and there is no better place to honor him than at the Rose Bowl.”

Hill has spent the majority of his broadcasting career with CBS Los Angeles, which he joined in 1976. He has covered major sporting events including NCAA championships, Super Bowls, World Series, NBA Finals, the Olympics and the World Cup.

A Texas native, Hill was selected by the San Diego Chargers in the first round of the 1968 NFL Draft out of Texas A&I University in Kingsville.

He played seven NFL seasons with the Chargers, Green Bay Packers and Cleveland Browns before beginning his broadcasting career.

Hill has been a longtime presence covering UCLA sports at the Rose Bowl and Pauley Pavilion.
