The Union Station Homeless Services needs volunteers  this Friday, Dec. 16 to help wrap the books and gifts donated by the public for its holiday drive this year.

To volunteer, visit: volunteers@unionstationhs.org.

The nonprofit has been collecting toys for all ages, books for all ages, gift cards (increments of $25) and gift wrapping supplies for its holiday drive. Residents had the opportunity to drop their donations until Wednesday, Dec. 14.

The toys, books and gift cards that will be collected will benefit all the families that Union Station serves. Adult clients will get gift cards while children will get the toys and books.

Over 400 kids are targeted to receive at least two toys and two books as part of the project.

The gifts will be delivered to parents so they can place them under the tree and allow their kids to open them at Christmas time.

A Union Station spokesperson told Pasadena Now that donations increased this year compared to previous years –  proof that the holiday spirit is alive in Pasadena.

“Thank you for your support and generosity during the holiday season and beyond. Making the season brighter for those who have or are experiencing homelessness is one of the best ways to let our neighbors know how important they are in our community,” said Union Station CEO Anne Miskey.

Aside from the holiday drive, Union Station Homeless Services has various programs in place to make the holiday season more enjoyable. Residents can help provide Christmas trees, holiday decorating supplies and baked goods for those in need.

Meanwhile, Union Station Homeless Services was able to serve over 4,300 meals over the Thanksgiving week as part of its annual “Dinner in the Park,” a tradition that brings the community together over cooked celebratory meals.
