The United Nations Association, Pasadena Chapter will celebrate “UN Day 2026: Empowering Youth for a Better Future” on Monday, Oct. 26, from 6 p.m. to 7:15 p.m. at the Polytechnic Upper School Library, 1030 Cornell Road, in Pasadena, the organization said in a press release.

The event will bring together students, educators, community organizations, volunteers and members of the Pasadena community, according to the release.

Khin-Sandi Lwin will be the keynote speaker, the chapter said.

The release describes Lwin as an international development expert and gender equity advocate who served with the United Nations for 35 years in more than 10 countries, including as a UNICEF representative.

The chapter will also welcome Sophia Alicea, the United Nations Association of the United States of America’s youth observer to the United Nations, according to the release.

The program will feature interactive activities, remarks from United Nations Association officials and youth leaders, and an advocacy-focused call to action, the release said.

It reflects the national association’s 2026 theme, “United to Deliver on Promises to Support Peace, People, and Planet,” according to the chapter.

The celebration will include a youth showcase on the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals, in which students and teams will be invited to present their projects through a short presentation accompanied by a video or slideshow, the release said.

Selected participants will become the chapter’s Youth Global Goals Ambassador and receive a $500 donation made in their name to an eligible nonprofit charity of their choice, according to the release.

Project submissions are due on or before Oct. 15 at 10 p.m., the release said.

“Planning for UN Day 2026 has allowed me to engage with global issues in a way that turns learning into tangible action within my own community,” youth intern Lauren Poplock said in the release.

Attendees will also be able to learn about local volunteer organizations and ways to become involved with the chapter, according to the release.

The Pasadena chapter is a local chapter of the United Nations Association of the United States of America, which is a program of the United Nations Foundation, the release said.
