Vandals caused more than $23,000 in damage by excessively trimming seven trees on a fenced property in the 1900 block of Lincoln Avenue over Memorial Day weekend.

The vandalism was discovered and reported to police at approximately 9:33 a.m. on  Tuesday, according to Pasadena Police Lieutenant Monica Cuellar.

The incident occurred sometime between Friday and Monday during the Memorial Day weekend while the property owners were away.

“If you trim more than 25% of the tree, it could send the tree into shock and die,” Cuellar explained. “The person who did it seemed like they knew what they were doing.”

The case has been classified as felony vandalism due to the extensive damage exceeding $23,000, Cuellar said.

The trees, while severely damaged, are not currently dead.

Police have no suspect information and no surveillance footage is available from the area, according to Cuellar. The case has been forwarded to the Property Crimes division for investigation, police confirmed.
