As Mayor Terry Tornek and Challenger Victor Gordo enter the post-Labor Day sprint to Nov. 3, Gordo’s campaign has rolled out its first television ad for the general election.
Titled “Garage,” the ad began airing citywide this week on cable television. The spot centers on Gordo’s background, highlighting his humble beginnings of growing up while living in a local Pasadena garage and delivering the Pasadena Star-News — experiences that inspired his life’s work: fighting for working families as an attorney who represents local working people and representing his neighbors on the Pasadena City Council.

Since launching his grassroots, people-powered campaign for mayor, Gordo has amassed widespread support from hundreds of Pasadena community members, neighborhood leaders, and the Pasadena Firefighters Association, IAFF Local 809. He’s also won over former Pasadena Mayor Bill Bogaard, who is co-chairing Gordo’s campaign. In the March primary election, Gordo finished in first place with more than 46 percent of the vote, defeating the incumbent and two challengers. However, he was unable to win 50 percent plus one vote to win the seat outright, forcing the Nov. 3 runoff against Tornek.
“We’re getting our message out leading to November,” Gordo said. “I have seen Pasadena at every level, from the garage to the board room at the Rose Bowl to City Hall. I know this city well from many vantage points.”
