The West Pasadena Residents’ Association will dedicate its annual meeting to providing access to people, information, and resources that can help residents protect their lives and property from wildfires, in response to January’s devastating Eaton Fire that destroyed nearly 10,000 structures and claimed at least 18 lives in Altadena.

The WPRA said the meeting is open to all Arroyo-area Pasadena residents and business owners.  It is set for Thursday, June 5, at the Maranatha High School Student Center, 169 S. St. John Ave., Pasadena. The meeting will run from 5:00 to 8:30 p.m.

The event will begin with a meet-and-greet session from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m. During this segment, attendees can visit with representatives of several dozen community organizations who will be touting services, programs and initiatives.

Attendees can also meet with local elected officials and City staff members.

The main program, “How you can better protect life and property from wildfires,” will run from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Wildfire protection experts will address four critical issues during the program.

Speakers will discuss the current and future state of property insurance, as well as strategies to mitigate the likelihood of large premium increases and coverage cancellations. They will also cover Arroyo Seco brush clearance, fire issues, jurisdictional authority, and project funding.

The program will also include information on hardening homes and communities against wildfire, with vendors available to discuss their solutions.

Emergency and evacuation communications between the City and the community in the event of fire or other natural disaster will also be addressed.

The West Pasadena Residents’ Association, founded in 1962, is dedicated to maintaining the character of communities and enhancing the quality of life in West Pasadena, an area bounded on the north by W. Colorado Boulevard, on the east by S. Fair Oaks Avenue, and on the south and west by the city limits.
