Police arrested a woman on suspicion of attempted murder after they say she attacked her stepfather with a machete in Pasadena on Saturday afternoon.
Officers were summoned about 3:05 p.m. to a report of a family disturbance in the 200 block of Plymouth Drive, Pasadena police Lt. Anthony Burgess said. The caller reported that one of the people involved was armed with a machete.
On arrival, officers encountered a 37-year-old man suffering from a significant gash to his forearm, which he apparently sustained while blocking a blow from the machete, Burgess said.
He was taken to a hospital for treatment of injuries not considered to be life-threatening.
The alleged attacker, 24-year-old Jasmine Alicia Martinez of Pasadena, was detained at the scene without incident, according to police and Los Angeles County booking records.
The investigation determined Martinez had retrieved the large blade and attacked her stepfather with it after he had gotten into an argument with his wife, Burgess said.
Martinez was booked on suspicion of attempted murder, he said.
Bail was set at $1 million pending her initial court appearance, which was yet to be scheduled Sunday, records show.
