A man brandished a large knife as he robbed a woman of her necklace and bracelet in Pasadena on Wednesday afternoon, police said.

The crime took place about 1:55 p.m. along Orange Grove Boulevard at Oakland Avenue, Pasadena police Lt. Anthony Burgess said.

A 48-year-old Pasadena woman was walking down the street when she crossed paths with a man, he said.

“The suspect came up behind the victim, grabbed her and told her he wanted her necklace,” the lieutenant said. “The suspect pulled the necklace from her, then tried to pull off her bracelet as well.”

When the robber was unable to remove the bracelet, he pulled a 7- to 8-inch-long knife and threatened the woman with it, Burgess said.

Police said the man then took the woman’s bracelet, pushed her to the ground and ran off. He was last seen heading south along Oakland Avenue.

The victim suffered apparently minor injuries to her neck and wrist, Burgess said.

The robber was described as a Latino man in his 30s, of medium complexion, wearing blue jeans and a red-and-black checkered shirt.

Police were continuing to gather surveillance footage from nearby cameras as the investigation continued Thursday.
