A workshop titled “Run for Office and Win!” will take place Sunday, Oct. 19 from 10:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Arboretum, 301 N. Baldwin Ave., Arcadia. The event is open to elected officials, community members and aspiring candidates, offering speakers, networking and lunch. Confirmed speakers are Supervisor Kathryn Barger, Campaign Director Nadia Abrica, and Social Media specialist Megheti DerBoghossian.

Speaker Ursula Hyman, director of the Altadena Recovery and Rebuild Corporation, continues her work supporting civic organizations and housing recovery. Founded by Supervisor Kathryn Barger, the nonprofit organization helps secure affordable financing for businesses, churches, schools and community institutions, while seeking innovative housing solutions.
Hyman also leads Fire Recovery Programs at Assistance League of Pasadena, where she developed the Navigator Program to help seniors rebuild after disasters. In partnership with the Pasadena Senior Center, she organizes seminars on cost-saving strategies, insurance navigation and home setup guidance.
The next related meeting will be held Monday, Oct. 6 at 6 p.m. at Villa Gardens, 842 E. Villa Street in Pasadena, in the fifth-floor game room. Attendees are advised to park on the street or in the driveway.
At the National Women’s Political Caucus – San Gabriel Valley’s September meeting at the Pasadena Senior Center, members celebrated the success of the National Biennial Convention, which featured speakers such as Sen. Laphonza Butler and State Controller Betty Yee. Discussions included gender parity in elected offices and youth engagement.
The caucus reported 78 members with current dues and encouraged board members to contact those with expired memberships. November’s meeting will include a Planned Parenthood clinic tour on Nov. 20, followed by a holiday party on Dec. 18.
