A group of young artists from First United Methodist Church (FUMC) in Pasadena will showcase their eco-conscious creativity at the upcoming Pasadena Art Walk Weekend. The event, scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 21-22, will feature a unique “Trash to Treasures” art project led by the church’s youth.
On Saturday, Sept. 21, from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m., and continuing on both days from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m., visitors can participate in a hands-on “make and take” activity that transforms discarded items into sculptures. The project aims to explore inner creativity and promote environmental awareness by repurposing materials that might otherwise end up in landfills.
“Reusing and repurposing items is one way to care for our Earth,” said a statement from FUMC. The initiative aligns with the church’s commitment to nurturing spiritual growth and compassionate service within the community.
The youth-led art table will be located on Green Street, which will be closed to traffic during the Art Walk Weekend.
FUMC describes itself as a welcoming community of Christian faith in Pasadena’s heart. The church emphasizes “open hearts, open minds and open doors,” inviting those seeking spiritual growth, community engagement, and inspiring worship to join their congregation.
FUMC said the “Trash to Treasures” project offers a creative outlet for participants while highlighting the importance of environmental stewardship. By encouraging visitors to see potential in discarded objects, the church hopes to inspire a more sustainable approach to art and daily life.
