Pasadena High School Celebrates Opening of Remodeled Gymnasium on Tuesday

The $18.9 million project was funded by Measure TT, the school bond initiative approved by area voters in 2008

Pasadena Unified School District (PUSD) officials will join Pasadena High School students, staff, and parents at a ribbon cutting ceremony and celebration of the newly remodeled Tom Hamilton Gymnasium at Pasadena High School on January 8, 2019, at 2 p.m.

The ceremony will be followed by the boys’ junior varsity basketball game at 3:30 p.m. and a varsity game at 5:00 p.m.
“The renovation of the gymnasium delivers enhanced opportunities for the students of PHS to concurrently pursue excellence in academics and athletics,” said Superintendent Brian McDonald.
The modernization of the 58,000 athletic complex includes the 8,800 square foot gymnasium with a full-size basketball court, bleachers, lobby, concession stand, restrooms, and new entrance. The adjacent locker room area, which is slated for completion in early 2019, includes team rooms, administrative offices, and customized storage for athletic equipment. Construction upgrades were also made to the pool area. New air conditioning systems were installed and electrical systems were upgraded.
The next phase of renovations for PHS include landscaping around the gymnasium as well as the rest of the campus and modernization of the small gym.
“The gymnasium is a symbol of our proud Bulldog athletic tradition and our promising future, and we are grateful to the community for their support of our student athletes,” said PHS principal Robert Hernandez.
PHS serves more than 1,700 students in grades 9-12. and currently fields sports teams in basketball, football, volleyball, cross country, water polo, tennis, cheer, soccer, baseball, softball, golf, swimming, and track and field.

The project was designed by Flewelling & Moody with the Nazerian Group as the general contractor.
The Pasadena High School Tom Hamilton Gym is located at 2925 E. Sierra Madre Blvd. in East Pasadena.
