Pasadena's Incoming Vice Mayor Issues King Day Challenge to Community

On this day we come to celebrate the life and legacy of the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. King empowered us to seek and serve justice. King taught us not to view the world through a racial prism, religious prism, gender prism, but a character prism. A prism that reflects light on the golden rule to treat others as we want to be treated and sheds light on our morals and values.
He challenged us to be empathetic to the plights that do not directly affect us. In Pasadena, I challenge us to build meaningful relationships with our neighbors. Because as Maya Angelou says, we are more alike than different. Recognizing our similarities can help us better navigate our differences.
I’m reminded by Dr. King’s challenge to keep moving forward. If you cannot fly, then run. If you cannot run, the walk. If you cannot walk, then crawl. But by all means, keep moving.
Become civically engaged. Join a city commission or non-profit board. Advocate for causes near and dear to your heart. In a way that suits your interests and your passions, encourage others within our community. Dr. King reminds me that it is essential for us to stay engaged and stay together.
