Pasadena’s “Safer at Home Order” Could Be Amended To Be Stricter

Changes made to L.A. County and Long Beach’s safer at home order could result in Pasadena officials also strengthening its order.

On Saturday, L.A. County added nail and hair salons, drive-in movies among other businesses forced to close.

The County also clamped down on public and private gatherings events, completely prohibiting them.

The revisions come following Gov. Gavin Newsom’s statewide mandate forcing order 40 million Californians, including Pasadenans, to stay at home and follow social distancing rules, except in several conditions.

Pasadena’s order is identical in effect to the original order released by the County and the cities of Los Angeles and Long Beach.

Originally, personal grooming services were classified as essential retail business and were exempted.

However, on Saturday night, the County clarified that personal grooming services “are nonessential services that are closed.”

The order includes barbershops.

Countywide, 409 people are reportedly affected by the virus on Sunday afternoon. Five people have died.

On Friday, Pasadena reported its third case of the virus.

Currently Pasadena’s order allows residents to

  • Go to the grocery, convenience or warehouse store

  • Go to the pharmacy to pick up medications and other healthcare necessities

  • Go to medical appointments (check with your doctor or provider first)

  • Go to a restaurant for take-out, delivery or drive-thru

  • Care or support a friend or family member

  • Take a walk, ride your bike, hike, jog and be in nature for exercise — just keep at least six feet between you and others in the community.

  • Walk your pets and take them to the veterinarian if necessary

  • Help someone to get necessary supplies.

Residents cannot:

  • Go to work unless you are providing essential services as defined by this order

  • Visit friends and family if there is no urgent need

  • Maintain less than 6 feet of distance from others when you go out

  • Visit loved ones in the hospital, nursing home, skilled nursing facility.
