Frostig School Receives Grant for Teacher Laptops
The Pasadena Community Foundation awarded Frostig School a $10,000 grant to fund the purchase of laptop computers for teachers.
“Laptops are the essential tool for connecting with students during this time of distance learning,” said Frostig School Principal Jenny Tucker Mottes. “We are grateful to Pasadena Community Foundation for understanding our need and responding so quickly.”
Frostig School, which serves students in grades K-12 who have complex learning differences, is conducting all classes remotely to protect the health and safety of our community.
Frostig teachers have built an online learning community that promotes each student’s academic and social growth. Faculty are using Google Classroom to anchor the remote program. They are drawing on textbooks, printouts, videos, and online resources to provide an engaging academic experience. The Social Learning instructor keeps students engaged by organizing lunchtime hangouts, student clubs and special activities like Mindfulness Mondays. Frostig counselors are providing telehealth while the art, music, drama and PE instructors are creatively adapting lessons to the virtual world.
Frostig will reopen its campus and resume in-person learning as soon as it is safe. The new laptops will play a vital role whether students are in class or at home. All students are equipped with iPads, Chromebooks and laptops so they may access lessons, homework assignments, assessments and assistive technology.
The Pasadena Community Foundation, founded in 1953, is an advocate for local philanthropy and is dedicated to improving the lives of people in the greater Pasadena area. The Foundation helps donors maximize the impact of their charitable contributions — strengthening the community, preserving cultural resources, and assisting those in need.
PCF has responded to the pandemic by awarding 234 COVID-19 Response Fund grants worth over $2 million to Pasadena 120 area nonprofits.
Frostig School offers a full range of academic and support services for students who have learning differences, including but not limited to dyslexia, dyscalculia, high-functioning autism and ADHD.
