Hands-On Physics: Waldorf Sixth Graders Dive into the Science of Sound!

Science is even more fun when you get to be part of the experiment! Pasadena Waldorf Grade 6 students launched straight into a Physics block to start the new school year. In their first week back together students have explored the physics of sound: how sound is made; how pitch is created; and finally how sound travels through various media. Before the students leave acoustics and move into the study of light next week, they will observe sound made visible with a demonstration of the Chladni plate and another dipping numerous struck tuning forks into a basin of water. The Waldorf sixth grade physics block meets the middle schooler who is now ready to fully appreciate the lawfulness of cause and effect.
