Maranatha Welcomes New Track & Field Coach
Maranatha High School (MHS) named Michael Eaton as their new Track and Field coach.
Michael was born and raised in Spokane, WA where he developed an interest in running at an early age, in addition to his involvement in many other sports. He won a few age group trophies at the annual Lilac Bloomsday Run, a 12K road race founded by Olympic Marathoner Don Kardong, who personally encouraged Mike and his twin brother Mark in their running. Both twins ran cross country and track at Mead High School and Whitworth University in Spokane. Both twins now live in South Pasadena, where they can be spotted occasionally running in local road races, such as the annual Tiger Run or the Rose Bowl 5K.
Coach Eaton has competed at every distance, from 800 meters to the marathon. On the track, he has run races both indoors and outdoors at many distances, including 800m, 1500m, 1600m, mile, 3000m, 3000m steeplechase, 3200m, and 5,000 meters. He has extensive experience and knowledge of the types of injuries to which high school athletes are prone, which motivates him to get his athletes to the starting line feeling healthy and confident. His goals are to help each student-athlete compete to the best of their ability, to encourage their teammates, and to grow in their love for God and for the sport.
Maranatha Athletic Director Sammy Skinner commented, “Michael brings a wealth of knowledge and enthusiasm to our track program as well as cross-country. Michael is a man of strong beliefs and will greatly impact our students academically, spiritually, and on the field.”
