Marshall’s Grant Goodwin Participates in UCLA Vice-Provost’s Initiative for Pre-College Scholars Kulturally Influencing 9th Grade Scholars Summer Program
Marshall Fundamental rising 10th grade student Grant Goodwin (pictured on the right) participated and completed his days with the UCLA Vice-Provost’s Initiative for Pre-College Scholars (VIPS) Kulturally Influencing Ninth Grade Scholars (KINGS) Summer Program. In the VIPS KINGS Summer Program Grant shared how he learned about compound interest and wealth building in Math Class, enhanced his writing skills in English Class, as well as, having extracurricular activities periods. https://www.aap.ucla.edu/units/vip-scholars/.
In addition to curriculum there was an opportunity for KINGS participants to engage with mentors and panelist in Success Hour. Success Hour was a chance for scholars to learn success beyond college including about careers in construction and other trade professions where many of the speakers were successful in their perspective fields. Grant mentioned he is looking forward to applying for the UCLA VIPS Scholars Academy Program in the spring semester of his sophomore year and stating, “To all the young black men reading this, I would strongly encourage you to apply for this program and attend if you get in.”
