Mayfield Junior School Raises Awareness and Funds for Breast Cancer Research
Mayfield Junior School Fourth-Grade teacher Rebecca Seymour knows firsthand how cancer can touch the lives of our community. Following a fellow faculty member’s passing nearly 13 years ago, Seymour felt the need to act and began raising awareness and funds to support the fight against the disease.
Continuing this tradition, MJS students, faculty, and staff made donations to the American Cancer Society in exchange for a free dress day on October 22. Mayfield community members wore denim and pink, the universal color that honors survivors, those that have been lost to the disease, and the progress being made to defeat breast cancer. Announcements about Breast Cancer Awareness Month were made at Morning Prayer for a week leading up to the event.
Progress has been made to support this worthy cause, but much work is needed to be done. Contributions to the American Cancer Society saves lives:
• It helps groundbreaking cancer research to better understand, prevent, and treat the disease.
• It provides free, comprehensive information and support to those affected by breast cancer when and where they need it most.
• It helps people take steps to reduce breast cancer risk.
Last week Seymour reported that MJS met and exceeded the fundraising goal.
