Pasadena High School Seniors Jaimyn Drake and Tosten Pearson Named National Merit Finalists

Pasadena High School (PHS) congratulates seniors Jaimyn Drake and Tosten Pearson who were named National Merit Finalists! PHS is proud of your accomplishments. Pictured above are Principal Robert Hernandez, Tosten Pearson, Jamyn Drake and Counselor Minh Tran.

Jaimyn is a senior in the App Academy, and a Math Academy student by transfer. At PHS, he leads and participates in a variety of clubs, including the Robotics Club, Astronomy Club, Math Club, Science Olympiad, and Tutoring Club. Outside of school, he practices as a taekwondo instructor (third-degree black belt) and plays the piano. Having applied to many UC schools and a number of prestigious private universities, Jaimyn is seeking a degree in Computer Science with hopes of a career in commercial research and development.

During Tosten’s time at PHS, he has been Vice-President and co-founder of our school’s Science Olympiad Club/Team and a writer for the Pasadena Chronicle, our school newspaper, since freshman year. With the invaluable help of a devoted staff, he has been leading the Chronicle this year as Editor-in-Chief. Outside of class, his main activities have been summer internships at Caltech and serving as a Volunteer Leader at the Huntington Library, Art Museum, and Botanical Gardens. In his spare time, he enjoys gardening and eating at new restaurants with my friends. He also loves to spend time at home with his two younger brothers, parents, and grandfather. After graduation, Tosten aspires to major in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering at a four-year college, after which he plans on earning a graduate degree. In Tosten’s words “The wonderful teachers, counselors, and staff at Pasadena High School have been a tremendous help throughout these four years, and to them I give my sincerest gratitude. I am looking forward to what the future may bring.”
